Obituary of Patricia Phillips

On August 12, 2012, our beautiful, sweet, smart, loving mother went to heaven to join our father. She was born March 6, 1928 in Fulda, Minnesota, to parents Philip and Mary Cassidy. She was a smart, fun, loving child with two brothers, Jack and Philip, whom she adored. Patricia graduated from high school and received a scholarship for higher education. She chose instead to become educated in the up and coming airline business and was assigned to her first job in Jacksonville, Florida. There she met our father, Carlton E. Phillips, whom she married and there they established our home and raised us among our cousins, aunts and uncles. She worked as an executive assistant for many years until her retirement General Electric Credit Corporation. In an era when it was not common, she worked with pride and dedication, all the while maintaining a loving home, where we flourished, striving to emulate her spunk and courage. When she turned 55, she began running and by age 65 had run a number of marathons, of which she and we were most proud. Our holidays were filled with love and the smell of something great cooking. Our home was kept warm by her sunny disposition, her smiles and laughter. Her humor and sense of fun never failed her. Even as Alzheimer's disease took away her memory, she still could smile and enjoy the people around her and anything that would satisfy her sweet tooth. She will be missed so very much; and the world is a bit greyer without her. She is survived by us, her daughters Kathy Phillips and Linda (Max) Blaylock; grandsons Scott, Matt and Alec; great grandsons Tyler and Alec Jr.; great granddaughter Keira and many nieces and nephews both in Florida and in Minnesota. In lieu of flowers please make donations to North East Community Hospice. Patricia was a lifelong devout Catholic and long time parishioner at Christ the King and Holy Rosary Parishes. Family will receive friends for a memorial service on Saturday August 25, 2012 at 11:00am at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road.
