Our Mother, Patty Lou Moore, died Friday, April 26, 2024 after a fall and a long fight to recover. She was 92.

Mom was born July 18, 1931 in Blue Jay, Raleigh, West Virginia. She grew up there and graduated from Shady Spring High School where she was a cheerleader and the May Queen. She worked at CG Murphy 5&10 Store after High School as a clerk for a time before her marriage.

She married our father, Bernard Gail Moore, November 2, 1952. They went around the country during his 23-year career in the US Navy from Virginia to California to Maryland and his retirement in Florida. She worked for insurance companies as a typist/secretary ending with a 12 year stint with JC Penney here in Jacksonville where she and dad retired again in 1988. Their son, Randy Charles Moore, was born January 18, 1957 in Portsmouth, Virginia and their daughter, Sybil Ellen Vinson was born June 1, 1963 in San Diego, California.

Mom loved to cook and handled the home when dad was out at sea in the Navy or at work at Glidden here in Jacksonville. They were wonderful parents and a great team. Mom was always married to dad even after he died January 12, 1992. She never considered any one else. Her grand-daughter, Shelby Gail Vinson, was born August 20, 1992 here in Jacksonville. She gave Mom a new reason to live as Mom took care of her when my sister had to go back to work.

She was proceeded in death by dad, her parents Sibyle and Erastus Houchins, her sisters Louise Houchins, Violet Elliott, Phyllis Rahal and brother Charles Houchins. She was also sadly proceeded by her grand-daughter Shelby Gail Vinson. She is survived by her children and 3 great-grandchildren - Riley, Levi and Tucker Smith.

We will always love you, Mom. But we are also glad that you and dad finally get your well-deserved happy ending. We will see you again.
