Obituary of Paul Squires

Paul A. Squires, long time resident of Jacksonville Beach, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family on October 1, 2015. Mr. Squires was born in Jacksonville, FL to Edward and Lily Squires on October 31, 1925. His family were some of the original settlers of Mayport Village and their legacy in Jacksonville dates back to the mid-1800s. Mr. Squires is the grandson of the late Edward and Frida Suskind, who have been described as "pioneer citizens of Jacksonville and had a road in Jacksonville Beach named Suskind Ave.

Directly after graduating from Andrew Jackson High School, Mr. Squires served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He returned to Jacksonville where he married his late wife, Wanda, on January 31, 1947. Mr. Squires worked as a salesman for U.S. Steel for many years before retiring from the Ponte Vedra Club where he worked as the front desk manager. After retirement, Mr. Squires spent most of his time with a camcorder perched on his shoulder recording over 2,400 hours of home movies of his grandchildren. He also spent much time greeting strangers and friends on his beach and pulling the gill net with his family.

Mr. Squires is survived by his two children- Kenneth Squires and Janet Roberts; six grandchildren- Shea Squires, William Taylor, Brian Taylor, Alan Squires, Eric Squires, and Allison Roberts; eleven great-grandchildren; one nephew and one grandnephew.

Funeral Service for Mr. Squires will be held on Monday, October 5, 2015 at 11:00am in the Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00am. Interment with Miliatry honors will follow in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
