Obituary

Peggy Jo Cheshire, aged 66 of Jacksonville, Florida, died Thursday September 15, 2022 at home after an extended illness. She was born in Ravana, Ohio and as a young child was orphaned. She was adopted by Alan and Mary Stanley in 1968 and the family moved to North Fort Myers, Florida. She was a graduate of North Fort Myers High School, class of 1974. In 1981 after getting married, she moved to San Diego, California, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and settled in Jacksonville, Florida with her husband who served in the Navy. She has held a variety of interesting jobs over the years, including; Line server at Lee Memorial, receptionist for several funeral homes, security guard, and school crossing guard for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department.

Peggy was involved in many community service activities throughout the years. She hand crafted receiving blankets, teddy bears, and pillow books for Wolfson Children's Hospital and she and her husband provided foster care for animals for the Jacksonville Humane Society. She also hand crafted many items for Toys for Tots and honored by the US Marine Corps Reserve in 1993 for her support of the program. She was a member of the Forrestal Wife's Club (Navy Spouses) and volunteered or assisted other families during times of deployment. She served on the Sherriff's Advisory Council in 1997. She loved the Jacksonville Jaguars – and even made her husband paint their car to match the team colors! She especially loved animals and had well-loved cats and dogs throughout her life. She enjoyed attending local car shows; she enjoyed meeting new people. She was a life member of the NRA. She was preceded in death by her natural parents, Clifford Wolf and Paulene Tippins Wolf, her brother Eddie Wolf, her sister Sandy Wolf Guy, and her adoptive parents Alan Stanley and Mary Stanley.

Peggy Cheshire is survived by her husband of forty-one years, George R. Cheshire; one daughter, Stephanie Jones and her husband Cedric Jones, of Vidalia, Georgia, three grandchildren Absalom Jackson of Statesboro, Georgia, Zoë Jones and Grace Jones of Vidalia, Georgia and a loving mother-in-law, Geraldine Cheshire of North Fort Myers, Florida.

The funeral service will be held at Arlington Park Funeral Home on September 27 at 1pm. The family will receive friends at 12pm for the visitation. It will be a celebration of life and everyone is encouraged to share stories of Peggy during the celebration. Burial will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery.
