Obituary of Rebecca Pettway

Rebecca T. Pettway, 85, passed away October 28, 2009. She was born in Smyrna, Georgia to the late Jewell and Ruth Thornton and moved to Atlantic Beach in 1964. She was employed as a claims examiner for the Department of Labor and faithfully attended the Community Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Beach where she was an elder of the church and awarded an honorary lifetime membership. Mrs. Pettway was an avid golf player, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and a loving friend to all she knew. She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George Pettway. Mrs. Pettway is survived by a son, Robert Pettway, Sr. (Gaila); daughter, Kathy Shore (Brent); grandsons, Robert Pettway, Jr. (Melissa), Kevin Pettway (Lena Shore), Brent "B.J." Shore, Jr.; granddaughters, Kristy Shore, Rhonda Pettway-Keaton (Robbie); great-grandchildren, Regan Pettway, Reid Pettway, Megan Pettway-Hisey (Josh), Annsley Pettway, and Riley Hisey, and many dear friends. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 3pm to 4pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville (724-6384). Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the Community Presbyterian Church, 150, Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach, Florida, with Rev Gabe Goodman, officiating.
