IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rebecca "Becky"
Simpson
March 2, 1951 – June 23, 2020
After a long journey with ALS, Rebecca ("Becky") Brickert Simpson passed away at her home on June 23, 2020. Becky was born on March 2, 1951 in Albuquerque, NM and spent most of her life in Jacksonville, FL. In her early years she enjoyed activities at Arlington United Methodist church, swimming at the YMCA, ballet dancing, being a Girl Scout and spending time with her two sisters.
Becky graduated from Terry Parker High School in 1969, where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended Florida State University and was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1973 and began her chosen career in the field of blind rehabilitation. Becky served as Counselor and Rehabilitation Specialist at the Florida Division of Blind Services and then as Project Director at the Independent Living for Adult Blind (ILAB) program until her retirement in 2013. She often traveled to Tallahassee and Daytona Beach, FL as a visually impaired advisor to the State and to the Select Committee on Aging for the House of Representatives. Becky devoted her life to providing service and care to others; she took a personal interest in each client and coworker, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew her.
Becky's priority was always her family. Her children were the light of her life. She treasured being a mother and devoted much of her time to taking care of her girls, family gatherings, vacations with cousins and gardening. Known as "Mimi" to her grandchildren, she had a precious and dear bond with all three. Becky enjoyed ballroom dancing and impressed everyone with her talent and grace, and a trophy every once in a while. Even through her illness, Becky always remained patient, kind, compassionate and caring with everyone. Many times, Becky's colleagues and friends recounted to her daughters that she is one of the best people they ever knew.
She is preceded in death her loving parents Ann and John Taylor-Brickert
Becky is survived by her daughters Christie Simpson Lloyd (Daniel); Kelly Simpson Stoneberger (Erik), three grandchildren Camilla, Vivienne, and Shepard Stoneberger; her sisters Linda Brickert Hartley (Cameron) and Jana Brickert Phillips (Paul).
Funeral Services will be held at a later date due to current corona-virus restrictions. Look to the website for any updated service dates and times.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made in Becky's memory to Community Hospice & Palliative Care ( support.communityhospice.com ) and ALS Association ( als.org/donate ).
