Obituary of Rheta Holt
Rheta Jane Holt, 74, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 31, 2008 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinsons and heart complications. Jane was born in Rainesville, Alabama and spent the last 34 years here in Jacksonville. Jane retired after 37 years as a teacher with her last 23 years as Department Head of Home Economics at Sandalwood High School leading her beloved Holts Heroes and Incredible Holts. She was also the cheerleading sponsor for many years at the schools where she taught and she loved her kids like her own. She realized that God called her to be not just a teacher of home economics, but a life teacher, one who teaches by example. Her passion and commitment to her students through patience, discipline and humor was rewarded with respect and love from her students throughout the years.
Jane loved spending time with her family, especially her only grandson, Brandon. She is preceded in death by her brothers, Eldridge Thompson and Wayne Thompson. Jane is survived by her loving and caring husband of 52 years, Bill Holt; daughter, Cathy Hyder (Kurt); grandson, Brandon; brothers, Lelon Thompson (Johnnie) and Ralph Thompson (Mona) and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services to celebrate Janes life will be held at 11:00a.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 6-8:00p.m. in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home.
