Obituary of Richard Snyder

Richard Dick Snyder, 88, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2007. Dick was born in Egg Harbor City, NJ on March 20, 1919. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he sailed the next 20 years on ships in the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, but spent most of his career on tugboats. He retired as a Chief Boatsman Mate and Tug Master in Jacksonville after 20 years. After leaving the Navy, Dick went to work for Florida Towing Co. and served as tug master and ships docking pilot for the next 25 years. After his second retirement, Dick and Tim spent many happy years traveling the world and enjoying their friends and family. Mr. Snyder was a charter member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a member of Solomon Masonic Lodge #20, where he was Past Master. Mr. Snyder also held memberships in the Scottish Rite and Jacksonville Shrine Temple where he was a past President of the Hospitality Unit. Mr. Snyder was predeceased by his parents, Amelia Richards and Harry Snyder and his sister, Alice Smith. Mr. Snyder is survived by his wife of 61 years, Caroline "Tim", daughters, Diane (Marc) Tamplin of Jacksonville and Joan (Russell) Hoffman of Egg Harbor, NJ, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta (Al) Pistorius of Port Orange, FL, and several nieces and nephews in Long Island, NY.
