Obituary of Rina Lorenzo-Luaces
Rina Lorenzo Luaces, 81, mother and matriarch, passed away suddenly of a stroke on Tuesday the 30th of December surrounded by family.
She left the world enveloped in the love of Christ that she herself spread unto everyone she encountered. Born in Holguin,Cuba in 1933, Rina was raised and educated in the Oriente province.
She attained a Doctorate in Education from the University of Havana. On December 24, 1954, Rina wed Francisco Lorenzo-Luaces in Havana, Cuba.
Fleeing the injustice of communism, Rina and Fransisco brought their family to the US in 1968. They were very proud to be Naturalized American citizens and were thankful for the opportunities provided to their family by this great nation.
The family eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida after living six years in Seattle, Washington. Rina worked for Peninsular Insurance and The State of Florida in the Department of HRS. She is survived by her children, Frank (Andrea) L. Luaces, Felipe (Joanne) L. Luaces, Maria (Mark) Gregorio, Vicki (Phil) Schmitt and Elvia Luaces. She was the proud grandparent of seven wonderful grandchildren: Matthew, Alexandria, Rebecca, Jessica, Christina, Marisa, and Nicholas. She will be deeply missed by many.
A Memorial Mass was held at Christ the King Church on Saturday January 3rd.
