Lt. Col. Robert Lee Turner, Jr, 78, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, in Jacksonville, FL. He was born January 22, 1937 in Wilmington, NC to the late Robert Lee Turner, Sr. and Annie Sullivan Turner.
Bobby graduated in 1955 from New Hanover High School in Wilmington, NC. He also attended Wilmington College. He retired as a Lt Colonel from the US Army after 32 years of service. He worked for Godwin Oil Co, Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and owned his own business, Turner Fuel Oil Co.
In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his son, Christopher A. Turner, sisters, Virginia T. Pickett, Elizabeth T. Padgett nephews, Larry D. Wallace and C. David Cook, Jr.
He is survived by sons: Robert L. Turner, III, Jacksonville, Fl and F. Lee Turner, San Francisco, CA; sister, Dainty T. Lanier, Wilmington, NC; five grandchildren, Cory L. Turner (Briana) of Wilmington, NC, Robert L Turner, IV of Jacksonville, FL, Nicholas L Turner of Wilmington, NC, Jack A. Turner of Jacksonville, FL and Amanda L Turner of Naples, FL; one great-grandson, Wallace L Turner of Wilmington, NC; special nieces and nephew, Rhonda Lee of Wilmington, NC, Amy L. Hance (Brent) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Kelly P Hayes of Raleigh, NC and J. Craig Padgett (Andrea) of NC; and special great-niece, Courtney P. Hance of Mt Pleasant, SC.; and numerous cousins.
Services will be at Arlington Park Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, July 17, 2015 at 12:00 pm followed by graveside services at Arlington National Cemetery at 2pm in Lane 1 with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the National Parkinson's Foundation.
