Obituary of Roberta Whitley

Roberta D. Whitley, 80, passed peacefully from the cares of this world to the eternal care of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 22, 2011 in Jacksonville , Florida . Born Roberta Jean Drummond on September 26, 1930 in Chicago , Illinois to the late Dorothy Drummond and Waymon Drummond, "Jean" moved to Atlanta , Georgia as a young child and grew up there. In 1957 she married Billy R. Whitley, who preceded her in death after 32 years of marriage. Roberta was known to all as a "people person", easily striking up a conversation with old friends and strangers alike. She was known for her love of hats and jewelry, always following her own standards for style and fashion, and always believing that "more is more". She leaves behind to celebrate her life a daughter Cynthia Mills ( Douglas ), her brother Jack Drummond (Shirley), a granddaughter Marion Riley (Jonathan), and 7 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road from 12:30-1:30 pm, with service to be held immediately afterward. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Jacksonville Humane Society, Hospice, or American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
