Obituary of Rosa Hernando

August 30, 1922 - April 7, 2013

On August 30, 1922, Santiago Martinez and Ciriaca Etcubaez Martinez gave birth to Rosa Martinez Hernando in Lucena, Philippines. She was the youngest of 5 children. Rosa passed to be with our Lord in Heaven on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 12:22 p.m., after spending many cherished years on Earth with her loving family.

On May 17, 1948, Rosa Martinez and Celestino S. Hernando, a CPA and credit manager for the Firestone Company; were married in holy matrimony in Sta. Cruz, Manila, Philippines. The couple lived and raised their family in Bacood, Sta. Mesa, Philippines, where Rosa worked as a lab technologist and later dedicated her life to caring for her family. On May 1, 1992, Rosa and Celestino decided to take a leap of faith together and uproot their lives to move to Jacksonville, Florida.

Rosa is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Celestino S. Hernando; five children and their spouses: Dr. Lourdes and Jesus Aquino, Dr. Flor and Mario Adraneda, Mr. Emmanuel Othello Hernando and Thelma Carlos Hernando, Ms. Rosalinda Hernando Morante, and Mr. Cesar Hernando and Imelda Ignacio Hernando; and thirteen grandchildren: Jamilla Aquino, Jill Aquino, Jane Aquino, Carlos Adraneda, Liezl Adraneda, Maureen Adraneda, Celina Adraneda, Cheryl Hernando-Tiongson, Ria Hernando-Cesumission, Christine Anne Hernando, Christian Karl Hernando, Lesley Anne Morante, & L.J. Morante.

Some of Rosa's favorite activities included shopping, spending time with her family, dining out, going on trips, and going to church. Rosa was a devout Catholic and a woman with faith that could not be shaken.

She was the last surviving member of the Martinez family.

God our Father,

Your power brings us to birth,

Your providence guides our lives,

and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,

their lives change but do not end.

I pray in hope for my family,

relatives and friends,

and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,

Who died and now lives,

may they rejoice in Your kingdom,

where all our tears are wiped away.

Unite us together again in one family,

to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.
