Obituary

Ruth Taylor Rollins Johnson passed peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 20, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life spanned more than nine decades, during which she shaped a family that now reaches across five generations.

Ruth was born on September 17, 1933, in Munson, Michigan, the daughter of Rush W. Taylor and Rhea Borton Taylor. She grew up in Michigan and graduated from Fayette High School in 1951. In 1960, Ruth moved to Florida, where she built her adult life, career, and enduring community. Michigan always remained part of her heart, and she treasured returning there—especially in the summers—to reconnect with family, memory, and place.

Energetic and curious, Ruth loved traveling and embraced opportunities to see the world with friends and family. She balanced that sense of adventure with a deep appreciation for home, expressed most beautifully through her gardening. Her yard and flower beds were a source of pride and peace, a living reflection of her care, patience, and love of beauty.

Ruth built a long and steady career working in accounting for banking and insurance companies, including many years with Blue Cross Blue Shield. In addition to her professional life, she devoted more than 20 years as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, generously giving her time and compassion in service to others.

Her faith was the cornerstone of who she was. Ruth was a devoted member of University Boulevard Church of the Nazarene for more than 58 years. She lived her faith openly—sharing it freely, serving faithfully, and supporting others in times of need. In March 2025, she was honored with a Distinguished Service Award in recognition of her many years of quiet, steadfast contribution to the church community.

Ruth married Donald Lester Rollins in 1953, and they shared many years together before his passing in 1992. In 1995, she married Paul Michael Johnson, with whom she shared love, companionship, and life until her passing.

Ruth leaves behind her husband, Paul Johnson; her children Dawn Landon (and her late husband Peter), Connie (Michael) Hunt, Joyce (Steve) Crawford, and Vern (Holly) Rollins; her stepchild Danny (Janet) Johnson; her grandchildren Heather (Jesper) Steen, Nicole Nichols, James (Felicia) Crawford, Rebecca (Rafael) Guzman, Tiffany Crawford (CH Hordge), Dustin (Mary) Starnes, and Drew Rollins; her great-grandchildren Taliah (Charles) Laymon, PFC Rafael Taylor Guzman, CH "Tre" Hordge, James "JAC" Crawford, Jacob Crawford, Makayla Nichols, Ryleigh Nichols, Alexandra Steen, and Lukas Steen; and her great-great-grandchild Christian Laymon. She is also survived by her brother, Paul (Eileen) Taylor, and extended family members she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; her son-in-law Peter; and her siblings Mildred (Wayne) Uhler, Wayne (Janice) Taylor, Ray (Barbara) Taylor, Loree Clark Castor, Carol (Phil) Fiedler, and Leah (Bruce) Rutledge.

Ruth will be remembered for her faith, her generosity, her steady presence, and the way she showed up for the people she loved. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the quiet strength with which she lived.
