IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth Jacqueline
Monger
December 27, 1932 – December 6, 2022
Ruth Jacqueline Monger
Ruth Jacqueline Monger, 89, passed away December 6, 2022 from complications related to dementia. Born December 27, 1932 in Stanleytown, Virginia to Arthur R. Conway and Ruth Angeline Conway, Ruth developed a strong work ethic as a child in the depression and early years of WWII. Her family moved to the Tidewater area of Virginia, where she lived over 30 years, and where she married Norman Gray in 1950. During her daughter's childhood, Ruth was a homemaker, and also worked in food service and retail. She served as a room mother, a Girl Scout leader, and a Cub Scout den mother.
A skilled seamstress, Ruth was also talented at needlework; crocheting, and knitting. No one went hungry at Ruth's table, as she was a great cook and hostess. In 1977 she moved to Jacksonville, and after Mr. Gray's death in 1979, Ruth met and married A.J. Monger in 1983. Through A. J. and her daughter, Ruth gained stepchildren and stepgrandchildren. Though Ruth only had one child, her large heart embraced all as her own and became a beloved second mother and grandmother. Ruth was employed by Hamilton Mint for 20 years before she retired in 1997. For many years Ruth served her church as a Sunday school teacher, a missions leader, and in food service, as long as her health allowed. Her beautiful smile and fun sense of humor endeared her to many. She was a prime example of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Ruth was predeceased by her parents, both husbands, brothers, Buford Conway and Garland Conway, four step children, a stepgrandson, and a stepgreat grandson. She is survived by daughter, Sharon Barry, of Jacksonville, stepdaughter, Mary Norris, of Maynardville, TN, two nieces, Angie Clark and Jodi Del Pizzo of Tucson, Arizona, and many extended family members.
