Obituary of Samuel Mackey

Samuel Douglas "Sammy" Mackey of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home after a brief illness on April 3rd. He was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina and graduated from University High School. He proudly served in the United States Air force during the Korean conflict. He retired from Coca-Cola and Jacksonville Transportation Authority with 20 years of service to each company. His final retirement was from the Duval County school board with 30 years of service as a school bus contractor. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Olin Mackey, mother Lois Elmore Mackey, sisters Patsy Shull and Frances Brown and daughter Lois Shortridge. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Joyce Mackey and son Joey Mackey (Kathy Mackey), daughter Deborah Pennington (CWO Bryan Pennington, USN, ret.). Also survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Louise Mackey Brown of St. Augustine, Florida and many nephews and nieces and a multitude of family and friends. Family will receive friends on Monday April 8th 10:00 a.m. at Arlington Park Funeral Home Jacksonville Florida. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. April 8, 2013 at Arlington Park Funeral Home with Reverend Melissa Pisco officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Park Cemetery under the care of Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral home.
