Obituary of Samuel Southerland

Reverend Samuel Southerland transitioned to his heavenly home on January 4, 2013. Survivors include his devoted wife, Ruth Clemons-Southerland. Loving father of Gary Southerland, Sandra (Jeff) Stommel, Randall Southerland, Cheryl (Brian) Smith, David (Linda) Clemons and Debbie (Eddie) Mims. Cherished grandfather to Dillon and Riley Smith, Jason Roberts, Jennifer Pruett, Crystal Wallace, Meghan Clemons. Great grandfather to Tyler and Emma Pruett, Haley Clemons and Logan Wallace and Jacob Roberts. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 36 years, Peggy Trundle Southerland and grandson PFC Nathan Clemons. Reverend Southerland was born on June 28, 1929 in Florence, Alabama. In 1949 he joined the Navy in which he served one term. In 1958 he graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University and was ordained into ministry and served for 28 years in the Church of the Nazarene. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be made in his memory to University Boulevard Church of the Nazarene. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 8, 2012 from 11:00am-12:00pm with his funeral to follow at 12pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida. The committal will be at Jacksonville National Cemetery immediately after the service.
