Obituary of Talmadge Wood
Talmadge Wood, 88, passed away April 19, 2008 at his daughters home. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII then went to work with Otis Elevator Company where he retired as District Manager after 42 years of faithful service. Talmadge was a member of the Jacksonville Downtown Rotary for 33 years and an active member of Arlington United Methodist Church participating in the Friendship Sunday school class and the Super Seniors. He shared a passion for traveling with his wife visiting many places all over the world. He also loved sports and played many rounds of golf at San Jose Country Club. Talmadge was a very hands-on-grandfather, attending every baseball game his grandson participated in. Everyone that he knew will miss his positive and upbeat personality.
Talmadge is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Sara Wood and is survived by his children, Michael (Catherine) Wood and Paula Soehlig; grandchildren, Ryan (Mechelle), Meredith and Sarah; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Austin and Nolan; and his sister, Hilda Bomar.
Talmadges family will receive friends at Arlington Park Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 from 6-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32257
