Obituary of Ted DeLay

Ted DeLay passed away in his sleep on the 4th of July, 2010. He was born on January 23, 1934 and has called Jacksonville his home since 1971. His amazing hands were his tools and could build or repair anything. His passion for woodworking extended to many people who possess items he made over the years, and his home is filled with treasures his family will cherish. There wasn't much he didn't know and loved to talk about, especially old cars and things of a mechanical nature. His talent for music has been well known since childhood. The tunes he's played on his guitars, banjos, ukuleles, and harmonica's can easily be heard in our hearts. As a division manager at SeaLand Service, he was well known and respected for his fairness and treated everyone as an equal. He was a giant of a man, both in physical stature and in heart. His day of passing was a long and labored event. There was a gathering of family who exchanged words of encouragement and thoughts with him, and he was still able to provide guidance, advice and good humor as he stared the end head-on. We will miss him terribly and forever cherish his memory. He was a loving husband to Helen for 53 years, whom he met while both were serving in the Air Force, and proud father of three sons Dennis, Kelly and Lynn and their wives Yolly, Janet and Debbie, and daughter Pam and her husband Tim. He adored his grandchildren, Jason, Brad, Michael, Erik, Sarah, Rachel, Awapuhi and Devin, and his dog Freckles. On Thursday July 8th a gathering of family and friends will begin at 11:00 with services at 12:00 at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers please make a charitable donation to NE FL Community Hospice.
