Obituary of Thelma Bowers

Thelma Louise Bowers, 86, was released into the light November 30, 2012, at her home in St. Augustine. A native Californian, she moved in with her daughters after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She joined the Sunshine Center daycare at COA and was lovingly cared for by the staff of the Alzheimer's program for almost two years. She entered community Hospice on October 8th of 2012 and was able to stay at home with their wonderful and loving care. COA home healthcare staff provided care throughout those two years and especially the last month, where they went above and beyond, especially CNA Tasha Lewis. Thelma lived for two years with her daughters, Jeneieve McDonald and Cindy Friedrich, who loved her very much and cared for her up to the end. Thelma loved being a member of The Center for Spiritual Living. She went every Wednesday evening with her daughter to choir practice and was known as their choir mascot. On Sundays, she always looked forward to Rev. Kens talks. Born in Glendale, CA, Thelma was married to Frank McDonald in 1949 and was widowed in 1961. She worked as a bank teller most of her life and was the main bread winner. She married Ken Bowers in 1979, and he passed away in 2004. Her son Mark McDonald, a musician, died unexpectedly in July 2012. Her hobbies were the theatre, dance, movies, reading, traveling and studying New Thought. She is sorely missed by her daughters, 3 dogs and one cat. She was a Metaphysician and a member of the Center for Spiritual Living. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, December 15 at 12:30pm at the Center for Spiritual Living, 1795 Old Moultrie Road, St. Augustine.
