Obituary

SFC Theodore “TED” Murry Dewitt – U.S. Army (Retired) R.N.

Theodore Murry Dewitt, was born August 5, 1943, in Washington, D.C. In August 1961, he voluntarily enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his time, he endured preparation for landing during the Cuban Missile Criss with the 1st Armored Division. He then went on to serve five tours in Vietnam as a radio operator. While there, he was wounded twice, earning him two Purple Hearts and Nine Campaign Awards.

Upon returning home, he met his wife of 45 years, Yvonne Dewitt. At this time, he also changed his career field to medical. He worked as a Combat Medic N.C.O after 20 years running a Combat Medical Facility and Unit, with the 197 BGD, Kelly Hill on Fort Benning, Ga. Ending his service with the military and transitioning into civilian life.

Retiring in 1983, Ted went back to school earning an associate’s degree in computer and nursing. He worked as an RN for 20 years. 15 of those years he was a Critical Care Nurse.

When he retired again Ted and Yvonne moved to Screven, Georgia where he passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on April 27, 2026.

He was proceeded in death by his wife, Hilda Yvonne Dewitt, brother, John W.E. Dewitt, sister, Katherine Burch, his Father, John W.E. Dewitt and mother, Adrianne Dewitt.

He is survived by his son, Michael Dewitt (wife, Rebecca) of Screven, Georgia, his grandchildren, Dillon Dewitt of Screven, Georgia, Ariel Dewitt of Jacksonville, his goddaughter, Tonya Young, grandchildren and great grandchildren in Houston, Texas and a number of other relatives and friends.
