IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Daniel
Dobbs
February 23, 1930 – December 20, 2024
Thomas Daniel Dobbs passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2024. He is forever in the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on February 23, 1930, in Phenix City, Alabama, to Thomas Henry Dobbs Sr. and Evelyn Harris Dobbs. He graduated from Central Phenix City High School in 1948, and then proceeded to graduate from Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama, with a bachelor's degree in 1957. He was a proud Navy veteran who served his country two different times in his life. He first served as an enlisted sailor on the U.S.S. Magpie during the Korean War. After his graduation from Howard College, he served in the Navy again as a Naval officer and aviator on the U.S.S. Roosevelt. After leaving the military, he was employed by State Farm Insurance where he worked 32 years before his retirement as the Regional Life and Health Manager of the Southeastern office in 1992. During his years of retirement, he traveled often and participated in many ministry service projects. He was physically active until the last months and was often seen walking and biking around town.
He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, attending many family celebrations of marriages and graduations. He had a keen mind and loved playing card games and doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football, tennis, and Braves baseball. Over the last 20 years, he was an active member of East Pointe Church, where he loved his time of service with his fellow church members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Evelyn Dobbs; his spouse, Nanette Dobbs; his sister, Joyce Lolmaugh; and his brother, Thomas Dobbs.
He is survived by his son, David Dobbs (Anita); daughter, Debra Wyland (Jack); grandchildren, Meagan McCoy (Jed); Molly Dobbs; Ryan Dobbs (Kellee); Kerri Dunn (Grayson), Kelly Antoine (James); and great-grandchildren Caleb, Carter Anne, Eden; Elliot, Genevieve. He dearly loved his family and was so very proud of them.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Arlington Park Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 12:15 pm.
