Vera Janie
Gossett
August 18, 1932 – September 5, 2024
Vera Janie (Weaver) Gossett, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who was deeply rooted in her faith, peacefully went home to her Lord and Savior on Sept. 5, 2024 after 92 vibrant years of life.
She was born in Jena, FL to Claude Parker Weaver and Janie (Ellison) Weaver, who were hard working, passionate farmers who loved what they did. At age 22, she married James Robert Gossett. They had 3 amazing children, 2 fun, loving grandchildren and 3 energetic great-grandchildren. Vera was very involved in all of their schooling and worked hard to ensure all of their childhoods were enriched and full of adventure. She was involved with her church, Hogan Baptist Church for over 60 years, which included teaching Sunday School and her Terrific Two's. Vera loved fishing, gardening and butterflies. She was often a highlight at family gatherings as she loved her family and enjoyed making memories.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents, her 10 siblings, her loving, patient husband of 43 years, James Robert Gossett, Sr., age 68 and their first born, full-of-life son, James Robert 'Robbie' Gossett, Jr., age 23. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Gayle (Gossett) Marek, age 66, her son Gregory Daryle Gossett, age 56, her granddaughter Lena Inez (Gossett) Santiago, age 45, her grandson Chad Robert Marek, age 29, her great-granddaughter Alexandra Gayle Gossett, age 25, her great-grandson Julian Giovanni Santiago, age 18 and her curly headed great-grandbaby Liliana Katalena Inez Santiago, age 11.
Services will be held at Arlington Park Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL 32211 on Monday, Sept. 9th as follows:
Viewing: 10am -12pm
Service: 12pm
Graveside: 1pm
Sandy and Lena will be hosting an open house Celebration of Life following the services at 2pm-5pm at Vera's house for those who wish to stop by.
Flowers may be sent directly to the funeral home. Vera loved all flowers and loved the color of purple. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vera's memory to Haven Hospice, as they were so instrumental is helping us in her final months. They may be reached at:
