Obituary of Vernon Lewis

Vernon Monroe Lewis, 76, passed away Tuesday morning, December 9, 2008. He was born May 17, 1932 in Morehead City, North Carolina. Vernon graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor's Degree in Science. He proudly served his country during the Korean War with the Air Force. After his enlistment he moved to Florida to work with the Coast Geodetic Survey. Vernon was a Revenue Officer with the IRS for 32 years and after his retirement he worked for himself as a tax consultant. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Arlington Christian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Chairman of the Board. One of the things Vernon enjoyed most was sailing. He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Nelson Lewis and his brother, Elvin Gordon Lewis. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Pauline Lewis; daughters, Sherri Lewis-Seals (Norman) and Tracy Coates; grandsons, Dustin Coates and Bradley Vernon Coates; sister, Helen Moore, nieces and nephews, a loving extended family and many friends. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6-8:00pm in the chapel of Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road. Funeral services will be held at Arlington Christian Church, 8705 Lone Star Road, Friday, December 12, 2008 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery where military honors will be rendered.
