Obituary of Vernon Willinger
Vernon Martin Willinger, 80, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008. He was born on December 8, 1927 in Louisville, KY to Oscar and Bertha Willinger (Leonard).
Vernon was drafted in the Armed Forces during the Korean War and was stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C. and served six months in Germany. Following his military service, he married in 1955, worked for the L&N Railroad, received his Bachelors Degree in Commerce and raised four children in Louisville, KY. During his career he was relocated to Jacksonville, FL in 1980 and retired from CSX railroad in 1986 as a senior cost analyst manager.
Vernon is preceded in death by his father and mother: Oscar and Bertha (Leonard) Willinger; brothers, Oscar (Midge) Willinger, Kenny Willinger, Donald Willinger and his sister, Thelma Harpst.
Vernon will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Mary Willinger (Coffey); two sons, Joseph Willinger and Richard Willinger; two daughters, Vickie Nelson and Sandy Willinger; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter, four additional loving children, Lynda Gregory, Gwen Miller, John Coffey, David Coffey and thirteen grandchildren, one great granddaughter and his sister Doris (Peach) Kosakowski in Cleveland, Ohio.
Visitation will be held in Jacksonville, FL on Sunday, February 10, 2008 from 5-8:00p.m at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road. Visitation will be held in Louisville, KY on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 5-9:00p.m. at Arch L. Heady-Russman and Son Funeral Home, 1201 East Oak Street. His funeral mass in Louisville, KY will be Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 11:00a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 1010 Schiller Avenue, followed by a reception at the church. His funeral mass in Jacksonville, FL will be Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00a.m at St. Pauls Catholic Church, 224 North 5th Street, Jacksonville Beach. Interment will follow the mass in Arlington Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
