Victor Emanuel "Vic" Poggie Jr, 90, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2021 at his home in Jacksonville, FL.
He was born on May 5, 1930 in Baltimore, MD to parents Constance Jacobs Poggie and Victor Emanuel Poggie, Sr. He graduated from Baltimore High School, class of 1948.
He served in the US Navy, 1952-1954, was a veteran of the Korean War and received 2 service metals. Victor married R. Yvonne Blackwell on May 18, 1963 in Baltimore, MD. where they started a family. Victor, Yvonne and their two young daughters moved to Florida in 1974 to escape the cold snowy winters and enjoy the warm Florida sun. Victor was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the water, camping and loved shooting pool whenever he had the chance. In 1983 Victor graduated from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Technology degree. He worked for Bell Telephone Co./AT&T for over 35 yrs. and was a member of the Florida AT & T Pioneers, Chapter #39. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion Lodge #283 and Moose Lodge #455 in Jacksonville, FL.
He is survived by his children, Yvonne Poggie Bechore (Harold Bechore) and Caroline Poggie Keeney (Gerald Keeney, Jr); grandchildren, Hayden Keeney and Ava Keeney.
Victor was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Yvonne Blackwell Poggie; his sister, Vera Poggie Ives; and his parents Constance and Victor Poggie, Sr.
Service and inurnment will be held at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL where Military Honors will be rendered, on June 4th at 2:00 PM. Due to Covid restrictions, friends and family will be limited to 50 people.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made c/o Vic Poggie to Moose Lodge #455 - 3834 Southside Blvd. Jacksonville, FL. 32216 or American Legion, Lodge #283 – 9459 Ft. Caroline Rd.
