Walter Edward Martin, 85, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2017 at home in his favorite recliner. He was the widower of Catherine Elizabeth Martin. They shared 40 years of marriage together and had four children.
He was born in Stewart County, Georgia on December 29, 1931. He was the son of Bruce and Ruth Martin. He joined the Air Force in 1948 and served his country for three years. He was a man with a tremendous work ethic, sometimes working multiple jobs to provide for his family. He worked in the meat packing industry for 20+ years and later he changed careers working in the industrial strapping industry for over 15 years.
He was a member of Chets Creek Church where he served faithfully in various ministries. He enjoyed reading, hunting, antique cars and card games. He will be remembered for his work ethic, his stories, being a wonderful provider for his family and his willingness to always help others.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Vicki) Martin, his daughters, Debbie (Kevin) Hill and Beth (Don) Chin, his sisters Becky (Allen) Gregg and Susie Aviles, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving wife and his son, Steve.
A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Chets Creek Church at 11:00 AM, 4420 Hodges Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32224 with internment at Arlington Memorial Park. 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32211. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 a.m.
