Obituary of Wayne Mitchell

Mr. Wayne ( Doug ) Mitchell, 89, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013.

Wayne (doug/mitch) Douglas Mitchell was born in Leroy Illinois on September 7,1924 to Ralph and Edith Mitchell. He grew up in Bloomington and Towanda where he went to high school and excelled in sports. He served four years in the army for his country before he settled in Towanda, Illinois with his wife and our mother, Martha J Mitchell.

Our Dad loved to play sports throughout his life and excelled in golf, bowling and tennis .He was a very good father and growing up we were always going or doing something .camping ,fishing or just driving .He loved to just get in a car and drive. I think he knew every back road from here to Illinois. He was also very good at fixing everything it seemed..and we all learned a lot from him.

Wayne passed away Saturday at Baptist Hospital downtown after a sudden heart attack took him on his journey to heaven ( I know he knew a back road!!!)

He is preceded in death by his parents and 6 sibling and reunited with his children-Elaine and Charlie and also Martha. He is survived by his family who will dearly miss himChildren-Wayne (Carol) Mitchell, Paula Mitchell, Ralph (Wanda)Mitchell and Ernie Mitchell and Grandchildren-Traci (Mike) Rich, Kevin Mitchell, Mandy(Tripp) Yedlicka, Matt, Sarina, Jenn (Brent) Harrison, Brian (Lisa) Alanoand great grandchildren-Madison, Carson, Allie ,Amy, Charity, Faith, Bella and (soon to be grandson ),Ryan, Grace and Cora..

He is also survived by his sister Donna(Ken)Mattingly, Darlene Atkins and Les Mitchell and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews which he just got to see at the reunion. He so enjoyed himself!!!! We also had his 89th birthday celebration before his passing.

Funeral services will be held at Arlington Park Cemetery (graveside)6920 Lone Star Rd in Jacksonville Florida.Friday October 11,2013 @ 1:00 pm.
