Wayne Acton Smith, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born on May 20, 1928 in Alabama City, Alabama, to Dixie Lee and Jack Smith. In his late teens and early twenties, he served in the United States Navy for 4 years. After his discharge, he met Edith Builderback, the love of his life, and they got married on May 20, 1950 in Folkston, Georgia, and relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. He worked as a shift engineer at St. Regis/International Paper and retired after 38 years. Wayne's talents were many, he loved photography, videography, fishing, bowling, golfing, gardening, camping, and perfecting his talent of wood carpentry. He was a beloved husband, father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa and Great-Great Grandpa. He was an active leader in First Baptist Church of Callahan, and a friend to many.
He is predeceased in death by his parents, Dixie Lee, Jack Smith, and his son, Wayne A. Smith, Jr. (Victoria Smith). He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Edith B. Smith, sister Jean Keebler, his Granddaughters, Jennifer Lucero (Sam Lucero), Kimberly Yawn, his Great Grand-children, Kathryn (Stokes) Hansel (Tyler), Stephen Stokes (Kacey Ward), Evan Stokes, and his two Great-Great Grand-daughters, Ellie Stokes and Emma Stokes.
Visiting hours will be from 11AM-12PM, and the celebration of his life will start at 12PM on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Callahan, 45090 Green Ave, Callahan, FL 32011. Interment will be followed at Arlington Park Cemetery.
