Obituary of William Campbell
Mr. William "Bill" Tilghman Campbell, Sr., 91, entered into rest on October 30, 2013 after a lengthy illness. He was born on September 14, 1922 in Old Church, VA to the late Dr. Walker and Rose Campbell. Following graduation Bill served in the US Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1946 he was hired by the Quaker Oats Company where he worked for forty-two years. During his tenure he was awarded the "Quaker of the Year" and recognized for outstanding achievement in sales.
Bill was an active member of Arlington United Methodist Church, the GMRA, Queens & Kings, Super Seniors and AARP. He enjoyed traveling, writing, painting and golf. He will be fondly remembered for his buoyant optimism and ability to find a common thread with all that led to friendship.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Margaret "Margie" Campbell. He is survived by his children, William "Bill" Campbell, Jr. and Sharon Campbell Shaw; and grandchildren, Adam and Brandon Campbell. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Road, Jacksonville, FL. The funeral will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Arlington United Methodist Church, 1400 University Boulevard North, Jacksonville, FL. Interment will follow immediately in Arlington Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
